Aug. 15: Lisa Nickel, director of special education, to speak to Chelsea Kiwanis Club

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)

Lisa Nickel, director of Special Education in the Chelsea School District, will speak to the Chelsea Kiwanis Club on Monday, Aug. 15.

Part of her responsibilities include the children’s preschool, and we will ask her about techniques for getting the best learning experience for the children. Chelsea Kiwanis continues to support scholarships for families to attend the programs offered by the district.

Bob Pierce from the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce spoke to the group last Monday. He talked about the successful golf outing to raise funds for the chamber and the upcoming Smoke and Ale Festival at the fairgrounds on Oct. 8.

He reported that the trend for young people nowadays is for affordable one-time events without long-term commitments. He reported the business climate in Chelsea was stable and that an influx of population into the area would be needed for it to expand. Many businesses have opportunities for employment.

The countdown is on for the food trailer at the Chelsea Community Fair, beginning Sunday, Aug. 21, a free tractor pull events take place on Sunday and Monday in the Main Arena.

The club meeting begins each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy-Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.

Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to learn about Kiwanis.
