On Aug. 27, Huron Waterloo Pathways Initiative (HWPI) in partnership with the Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation Commission (WCPARC) will celebrate the opening of a new segment of the Border-to-Border Trail (B2B).

The 2.1 mile trail segment of the Chelsea-Dexter connector begins at Freer Road and continues to Lima Center Road, showcasing stunning stretches of Michigan fields, an iron bridge over Mill Creek, and a connection to the Chelsea Ridge neighborhood.

This trail segment is a paved, 10-foot wide, ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant, non-motorized pathway intended for people of all ages and abilities.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. to mark the official opening of the first miles of the Dexter-Chelsea connector. The event will take place on the Freer Road end of the trail by the Oak Grove East Cemetery.

Parking will be available in the lot of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 1330 N. Freer Road.

This event is open to all.

Progress on the B2B continues in other areas throughout the county. Bridge work and boardwalk construction are underway on the 1.2 mile trail segment of the B2B that travels along the Huron River from the Dexter-Huron Metropark to Zeeb Road.

There is substantial activity in the M-52 corridor, with the start of construction on a 2.1 mile trail segment from Green Lake to North Territorial Road, a tunnel under M52 and a B2B trailhead. And there is another half mile of construction along Grove Road in Ypsilanti.
