Kathryn McCalla’s leadership class at Beach Middle School raised $1,4355.55 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation during the second trimester of school.

The class of 7th and 8th graders chose, organized, and carried out three fundraising events this winter: a dance, a flick n’ float (watching a movie at the pool), and a lock-in.

Students get to experience what it takes for charity events to run smoothly while raising money for a great cause.

In addition, students in leadership class hear from a variety of guest speakers, participate in weekly conversations with some incredible senior citizens from Silver Maples, write an extensive paper reflecting on their experiences, and contribute 10 hours of community service over the course of the trimester.

“We are very proud of Beach Leadership students and their accomplishments,” she said.
