Beach Middle School football recap

(Chelsea Update would like to thank David Slusser, Larry Merx and Dan Rhodes for the information in this story.)

7th grade gold
The 7th grade gold team lost to Pinckney Tuesday 48-0.

Gavin James and Will Wilhelm lead the bulldogs on defense with several big tackles. Gabe Anstead and Lucas Dawson played well on offense providing several big plays at quarterback.

Next week, the Bulldogs will host Tecumseh.

7th grade blue
Tuesday night, the 7th grade Blue team tied Ypsilanti, 20-20.

Drew Sherwood had a long touchdown run to start the scoring for the Bulldogs and also scored later in the game.

Chase Lay had a long fumble return for a touchdown to help the Dawgs’ comeback. The team stepped it up in the 2nd half, playing harder and more physical than they had all season.

Julian Lozoya, Trevor Ford and several others provided good tackles on defense. Next week the team will travel to Adrian.

8th grade blue football
The 8th grade blue team hosted the big and talented Grizzlies of Ypsilanti Community Middle School Tuesday night and came away on the wrong side of the 40-22 score.

Despite the loss, the Dogs turned in several outstanding efforts including several strong runs by Diego Medel, Cole Munson and Joey Formigan. Those runs were made possible by good blocking performances turned in the offensive line: Center, John Piatt; guards Tyler McIntosh, Colin Ledbetter, Robbie Tyson and Matt Poulter; tackles, Robert Sutch, Dan Charnock and Brandon Emmert; tight ends Connor Donakowski and Andrew Hilbert and wing backs, Jack Cavanaugh and Cole Munson.

Cole Munson also scored two touchdowns and converted a point’s after attempt. . The third Bulldog TD came on a Caden Knight pass to Drew McGuire. McGuire made a great run after the catch to get into the end zone. Joey Formigan then took a pitch out from Munson to score the extra points.

Andrew Hilbert recovered a fumble, Hunter Shaw did a good job running the “blue” offense and several players including Tyson, Sutch, Poulter, Munson and Knight, all played – and did very well – at different positions this week to fill in for injuries to Nick Fisk, Ian Carter and Jack Cavanaugh.

Next Tuesday, the blue team travels to Adrian to take on the Maples in search of  their first win.
