(Chelsea Update would like to thank Dan Rhodes, Larry Merx and Jared Beaver for the information in this story.)

7th grade blue
The 7th Grade Blue team lost a close one to Saline by a score of 26-22.

The Bulldogs had a chance late but were not able to pull off the comeback.

The offense started off the season strong on their first possession driving 10 plays and scoring on a 6-yard pass from Reagan Plank to Kyle Valik. The offensive line did a great job blocking and opening up holes for the runners. Plank got into the end zone for the 2-point conversion and gave the Bulldogs an early 8-6 lead.

Plank also had two touchdown runs and Mason Meads ran in a 2-point conversion.

On defense, Plank and Donovan Fisk each had interceptions. The Bulldogs also played a stout run defense and had solid kickoff coverage.

Next Tuesday, the Bulldogs look to improve when they play at home against Bedford.

7th grade gold
The 7th grade gold team got a slow start against Monroe’s white team Tuesday night losing 36-6.

Highlights for the Chelsea team included a 60-yard touchdown run by Max Herter. Tyler Cox, one of Tuesday night’s captains, recorded a 15-yard run and a 10-yard pass reception from Luke Anstead the other captain. Anstead also produced some strong runs.

Solid blocking came from Nick Vosters and David Eder. Defensively, Vosters and Seth Anstead at the tackles provided solid pressure in the middle of the line, while Max Herter and Luke Anstead provided support outside.

Seventh grade gold plays at Adrian next Tuesday and expects to be much improved following the experience gained in the team’s opener.

8th grade gold
The Chelsea 8th grade gold team lost to Monroe 38-0.

The defense played a solid first half recovering two fumbles, both by Braden Watson, who also caused another fumble later in the game.

Carter Alexander had key tackles for loss to help set up solid field position.

The offensive was highlighted by some nice runs from Drew Sherwood who was helped out by the blocking from his offensive line of Nick Garza, Braden Watson, Matt Gietzen, AJ Cobb, and Aiden Wallgren.

The team plays at Lincoln next week looking to improve week in and week out.

8th grade blue
The Chelsea Bulldogs 8th grade blue team headed down to Saline Tuesday night for their season opener, and kept it close in the first half with a score of 20-6.

Receivers Dominic Searl, Will Wilhelm, Jason Skoczylas, and Alex Wershcky all made great receptions from quarterback Lucas Dawson. Wilhelm, Searl, and Skoczylas also combined for a nice rushing attack.

On defense and special teams the Bulldogs had many great tackles across the board. Aiden Collins made a touchdown saving tackle on a kickoff, while Will Wilhelm and Eli Ratliff led the team in tackles.

Unfortunately, the only score from the Bulldogs was a 90-yard kick return by Dominic Searl.
The final was Saline 34, Chelsea 6.

Watch the Bulldogs at home Tuesday against the Bedford Kicking Mules.
