Beach Middle School Principal Nick Angel has been selected as the Administrator of the Year by the Michigan Association of Middle School Educators (MAMSE).

Angel said, “I am very proud and honored to be the principal at Beach Middle School and a member of the Chelsea Schools family.”

“I believe that MAMSE chose me for the award because I believe in helping children reach their full potential at the often difficult middle school ages. The organization places an emphasis on leaders who value not just academic strengths and increasing student performance but also a child’s social and emotional growth,” Angel said.

Criteria for the “Administrator of the Year” award includes significant accomplishments in the middle school field, leadership in furthering middle school philosophy, and service to the school and the school community.

“Beach is a special place,” said Angel. “The staff believes in offering an abundance of opportunities and supports reaching students wherever they are. The Beach team is fantastic – that’s the bottom line. It takes a very special type of person who dedicates their life to working with middle school age children.”

Angel said, “This is not an individual award.”

“The award validates the hard work of the whole Beach Middle School staff and our families,” said Angel. “The Beach teachers are the perfect combination of fun, wacky, innovative, collaborative and truly care about our kids. Our staff is always looking to better their craft, curriculum and their teaching and learning approach.”

This school year is Angel’s ninth year with the Chelsea School District. He graduated from Huron High School in Ann Arbor in 1998 then earned a BA in English/Political Science at Western Michigan University.

He was a teacher and coach at Blissfield High School after which he came to the Chelsea School District to serve as an assistant principal at Chelsea High School for 9th and 12th-grade classes. This is his sixth-year as principal of Beach Middle School.

Angel is married to Theresa, who works for Washtenaw International High School. They have four children who all attend Chelsea schools – Alannah, a CHS student, Kylie, a CHS student, Ava, a BMS student, and Brooklyn, who attends South Meadows Elementary School.
