Bulldog X-C wins SEC championship

For the first time since 2008, the Chelsea High School Cross County Team won on SEC championship with Jacob Stubbs leading the pack to win the race in 16:41. The senior is now the SEC champion.

Joe Vermilye finished fourth and Ben Koch was seventh with Miles Fischer also finishing in the top 10 in ninth place.

Jack Abernathy was 11th and Adam Bowersox finished 16th.

Stubbs, Vermilye, Koch, Fischer and Abernathy were named first team all league.

Bowersox received an honorable mention.

Coach Eric Swager said the Bulldogs had more depth than the other teams in the league.

“It’s nice to earn a league title especially against perennial powerhouse Dexter,” Swager said, who added “The focus our whole season is performing at regionals Saturday.”

He said there are five quality teams vying for state meet berths.

“It will take all of us performing at our best to earn a trip to state finals,” he said.

Swager also thanked all the fans and parents who have supported the team throughout the year.
