Changes coming to Chelsea Update in 2014

I'm hoping that Buzz will be happy with the four changes I'm making in 2014.
I’m hoping that Buzz will be happy with the four changes I’m making in 2014.

I’m making four changes in 2014 for Chelsea Update — all at the request of readers.

1. Many times, readers say they’ve missed a story that they were hoping to read and I find myself getting on the site and grabbing the link to the story and sending it to them because they can’t find it.

2. Readers have repeatedly requested that I add more news stories about what’s happening in the townships and attend township board meetings.

3. People are also worried that I don’t take enough time off and that I work too hard.

4. They also tell me that I need to regularly remind everyone to donate to Chelsea Update, so I can keep the site going as my full-time job as a service to the community.

So, after giving these ideas a lot of thought, here’s what I’ve decided to do.

Please use Saturday as a catch-up day on your Chelsea Update reading. Unless something big happens on Friday, I plan not to post anything new that day.

There are two ways to find out what you may have missed.

You can find the most popular stories listed under the last ad on the right side of the page. Just click on the headline.

Right under that, you can also click on news archives and a month, for instance, December 2013, and the site will pull up all the stories that I’ve published thus far that month. When you get to the end of the page, you can click on previous stories. Or, you can also go back in time and click on previous months to catch-up as well.

By not publishing one day a week, this will give me a little break as well, and afford me some time to do other things. (Hear that, Buzz, I’m making more time to play with and train you in 2014.)

My new January 2014 calendar is also quickly filling up with city, regional and township meetings and I hope to regularly send a few freelance reporters to the meetings I can’t attend because of conflicts.

For that to happen, if you enjoy reading Chelsea Update and would like to see more township coverage, please make a contribution. Please keep in mind that this is my full-time job and I’m trying to improve coverage that readers tell me is already invaluable to them. Please think of Chelsea Update as your source of Chelsea news and make a donation to keep it coming your way.

Donations can be made out to Chelsea Update, c/o Lisa Allmendinger, publisher, 18829 Bush Road, Chelsea MI 48118. Or, you can also donate through Paypal.

As an aside, in case you haven’t heard, on Jan. 1, two friends and I will relaunch Dexter Update, a sister site to Chelsea Update for the Dexter Community.

My focus remains on the Chelsea community and Chelsea Update; I’ll be more behind the scenes on the Dexter site, writing a story here and there. But, if you have friends in Dexter, and you like Chelsea Update, please ask them to check out this sister site on Jan. 1, and like it on Facebook.
