Chelsea Alehouse moving operations to Main Street

By Lisa Carolin

Three plans that mean potential changes for the City of Chelsea received unanimous approval at the Chelsea Planning Commission meeting April 18.

Following a public hearing, the commission (Larry Ledebur absent) approved a special use permit for West Washtenaw Brewing LLC. The Chelsea Alehouse Brewery is moving to 115 S. Main Street and received permission to manufacture beverages there. All manufacturing operations will take place inside.

Applicant Chris Martinson told the commission, “We’re moving our current operation from the Clocktower. We’ll be making our own beer on site and expanding the food choices we offer.”

The commission (Sarah Haselschwardt abstained) also approved the Prairie Cottages Phase II Final Site Plan from the United Methodist Retirement Community. Phase II consists of 13 units, while phase I consisted of 41 units.

According to City Engineer Christine Linfield, “It was a very well done plan.”

Tom Covert of Midwest Consulting, told the commission that some of the units in the Phase I section of Prairie Cottages are occupied.

The commission also approved final site plan extension for Heritage Pointe Phase IIB. Linfield explained that Heritage Pointe has a total of five phases and that phases I and IIA have been developed in the northeast part of the city. Phase IIB will include 40 more houses and has a new expiration date of May 20, 2018.
