Chelsea Area Garden Club seeks new homes for perennials, daylilies

Daylilies.

(Chelsea Update would like to thank May Jo Frank for the information in this story.)

Due to the cancellation of the Chelsea Area Garden Club (CAGC) 22nd annual plant sale this spring, daylilies and other perennials originally potted for the sale are now available for a donation.

Proceeds will go toward civic beautification, grants and scholarships.

CAGC plant sale co-chair Mary Randolph said the plants, which come from club members’ gardens, will be available 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 13 through May 23.

People must call ahead to set up an appointment and will receive directions to one of two locations. This will give hosts the ability to limit the number of visitors at any one time.

Social distancing, masks and gloves are required, and payment is by check to the CAGC. No cash or credit cards. A $5 donation per plant is suggested. Plants will only be available to those with an appointment.

Plants include 500 daylilies as well as ferns, iris, hostas, queen of the prairie, wild geranium, gunnera, meadowsweet, corkscrew rush and smoke bush, among others. No annuals, vegetables or herbs are available this year.

For more information or to schedule an appointment, call (734) 498-2679 (daylilies) or (734) 475-9748 (other perennials).
