Chelsea City Council makes appointments

There will be some new faces on several of Chelsea’s boards and commissions following the Chelsea City Council’s meeting on Jan. 6

Tammy Lehman will become the newest member of the Chelsea Downtown Development Authority board and Ron Livengood was reappointed.

Lehman, a Chelsea Realtor with a business downtown, was appointed to a 1-year term that ends Dec. 31, 2020 and Livengood, another downtown business owner, was reappointed for a 3-year term that ends Dec. 31, 2023.

Two seats remain open on the DDA.

Christine ‘Kate’ Mehuron, already a member of the city’s parks commission, was appointed to the city’s Zoning Board of Appeals for a term that ends Sept. 30, 2022.

Ann Merkel, a trustee on the Chelsea Library Board since 2016, was reappointed for a term that ends Dec. 31, 2024.

Chelsea City Council members also serve as liaisons for various boards and commissions and there were a few changes for primary positions this year.

Council Member Tony Iannelli, the city’s representative to the Western Washtenaw Recycling Authority will now also serve as the new liaison to the city’s Human Rights Commission.

Cheri Albertson will serve as the city’s liaison to SRSLY. (She was absent from the meeting due to illness.)

All other major positions remained the same for the year, although there were a few changes for alternative representatives and for boards and commissions that meet as needed.

City Council also unanimously adopted on second reading a request to rezone a vacant parcel near the intersection of the north side of E. Old US-12 and Fairways Lane from RS-2 to office zoning, which is expected to be turned into an office space building according to information provided by St. Joseph Mercy-Chelsea.

City Council also unanimously approved its annual visioning session for Feb. 12 at 5:30 p.m. at The Depot.
