Nathan Ayers, sustainability expert and founder of Michigan-based Chiwara Permaculture Research and Education L3C, will showcase perennial agriculture techniques at the Chelsea Area Garden Club’s autumn gardening lecture on Oct. 9 from 7-8:30 p.m. in the McKune Room, Chelsea District Library, 221 S. Main St.

The public is invited.

The Chelsea District Library is cosponsoring the talk titled “Permaculture: Solutions for Food, Water, Energy and Climate.” Permaculture design provides tools and principles to create regenerative, resilient homes and communities while healing ecosystems and restoring biodiversity. It is based on a philosophy that calls for working with—rather than against—nature.

Born and raised in Ann Arbor, Ayers’ background is in renewable energy systems and education. He seeks to introduce nature-based systems to K-12 students and the public. Founding adviser to the University of Michigan Permaculture Design Team, Ayers is helping the state of Michigan make the transition to small-scale, community-based solutions for food, energy, water, building, transportation and waste.

Each autumn, the garden club sponsors a public lecture to promote gardening in the Chelsea area.

To register, call the library at 475-8732 Ext. 219, go online here and click on the Calendar tab, or stop by the library information desk.
