Bulldog-logo(Chelsea Update would like to thank Loren Thorburn for the information in this story. My apologies for the incorrect headline, which has now been corrected to reflect the team’s regional championship.)

For the first time in Chelsea track and field history, both the girls and the boys teams won the SEC regional in the same year.

“It was a very special day,” said coach Loren Thorburn, who added, “I want to say thank you to all the athletes, coaches, parents, and spectators in their support of these fine young men and women. There were lots of special moments and memories during the day. I know there are a few who may have not placed in the meet or who did not achieve state qualifying status; however, we came together as a team and supported each other through it.”

The girls team competed against 14 other schools and scored 104.5 points, while next scoring team, Adrian, scored 70 points.

“We had 11 athletes earn state qualifying status in 8 events and 13 athletes were involved in scoring at the regional meet. Truly a special day,” the coach said.
