Last weekend was a successful one for the Chelsea Varsity Hockey Team as the Bulldogs took home the Thanksgiving tournament trophy for the fourth consecutive year and remain unbeaten at 3-0.

Held at Arctic Coliseum, Chelsea, Walled Lake Central, Waterford United and Okemos took part.

In the first round, Chelsea faced Walled Lake Central. The game was tight one and was scoreless after the first period.

However, a minute into the 2nd period, Sean Cox put Chelsea up 1-0, then Walled Lake answered about 6 minutes later with a goal to tie it up. A minute later, Jack Miller scored assisted by Cox and Alec Daman, putting Chelsea up 2-1.

The Bulldogs took advantage of a power play opportunity when Daman scored assisted by Harrison Green and Cox leaving Chelsea up 3-1 at the end of the second period.

The third period remained scoreless until Walled Lake pulled within one when they scored on a power play with two and half minutes to go in the game.

Senior goaltender Derek Schaedig stopped 41 of 43 shots on goal and Chelsea was into the finals.

The championship game against the Okemos Chiefs on Saturday started very similar to Friday’s game with a scoreless first period. But, Chelsea would strike first with a goal by Mack Hubert, assisted by Michael Milne and Jack Miller.

At the end of the second period, Chelsea remained up 1-0. But the Bulldogs were ready to go in the third period. Brennan Wright scored six minutes into the period, assisted by Ben Otto.

Six minutes later, Miller scored unassisted putting Chelsea up 3-0.

With 3 minutes left in the game Cox scored another goal, assisted by Daman. With a minute left Okemos was able to put one by goalie Schaedig, who saved 24 of 25 shots in the game.

With a final score of 4-1, seniors Daman and Schaedig raised the Thanksgiving Tournament Trophy for the 4th year in a row.
