Chelsea Kiwanis Club nut sale underway

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)

Last Monday, the Chelsea Kiwanis Club heard from Haley Thomsen. She has put together an informative program for Key Club members.  It covers the different parts of the Kiwanis family, K Kids for elementary students, Builder’s Club for middle school students, Key Club for teens, Circle K for college students, Kiwanis Clubs for adults, and Aktion Clubs for adults with disabilities.

Key Club provides its members with opportunities to serve, build character, and develop leadership. It is the oldest and largest service organization for teens. There are over 275,000 members in more than 38 countries. There are over 125 clubs in Michigan, many locally. Dexter, Huron, Lincoln, Pinckney, Pioneer, Saline, Whitmore Lake, and Ypsilanti high schools

All clubs are student led, finding where and whom to serve in their schools and communities, organizing projects, and getting as much benefit serving others as those who receive the service.

Haley shared expectations and tips to insure a successful club. She plans to have her presentation used in as many clubs as possible.  As a long time member and leader in the Kiwanis family, Haley had not realized the full scope of the organization, so she prepared this information.

Our Second Annual Mixed Nut and Chocolate Sale will be very important for our club, as we were unable to use our food concession trailer this summer due to the pandemic. We expect to begin delivering the healthful mixed nuts and delicious chocolates at the end of October.

Next Monday we will hear from Meghann Hollowell and Lyah VanSickle from Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan.

Normally, Chelsea Kiwanis meets each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.
