Chelsea Kiwanis food trailer at Ironclad Vintage Base Ball Festival today

The Kiwanis concession trailer.
The Kiwanis food concession trailer will be at the Ironclad Vintage Base Ball Festival today.

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)

At last Monday’s meeting, Bob Milbrodt covered the results of the 101st Kiwanis International Convention held in Toronto, Ontario. New officers were elected and amendments to the bylaws were adopted. Our International President Sue Petrisin, the first woman to lead a major service organization, conducted proceedings. Sue is from Michigan’s East Lansing club.

Jim Randolph updated the club on three of our recent grants:

  1. He represented the club at awards night at the high school where four members of the Key Club each received $1000 scholarships to further their education.
  2. He shared the latest activities at the Farmer’s Market Children’s Tent on Saturdays led by the intern we funded.
  3. He reported on the successful Summer Reading Program we helped fund at Chelsea District Library.

Today, we will operate our food concession trailer at the Ironclad Vintage Base Ball Festival all day at Chelsea High School grounds. The games last until 5 p.m. We will also be selling raffle tickets to support our 501-C3 foundation.  Our foundation makes the grants to deserving high school seniors each year. This year’s raffle winner will get to stay in a luxury villa in the Cayman Islands for a week and receive $400 for expenses.

The club meeting begins each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy-Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.

Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to learn about Kiwanis.
