Chelsea Kiwanis looking for volunteers for Chelsea Community Fair food trailer

The Jackson Symphony Orchestra’s new Director of Music Education Jed Fritzemeier was the Chelsea Kiwanis Club’s guest last Monday.

He began his duties last month after serving for many years as the orchestra director at Chelsea High School. At the Jackson Symphony, he is responsible for overseeing the Community Music School, the orchestra’s educational programming in schools, pre-concert lectures, and outreach programs.

Fritzemeier grew up in a family of teachers but wanted to be a musician. He enjoys practicing on his double bass. He has been fortunate to have had two excellent teachers at the University of Michigan, former double bass professor Lawrence Hurst, and professor emeritus of music education Robert Culver.

Even after many years developing young musicians at Chelsea High School into an excellent orchestra, he still considers himself to be a musician rather than a teacher. He did say that he does like kids, though.

There is a free Jackson Symphony Orchestra concert on Friday, Aug. 23, in downtown Jackson. It is called “The Best of Broadway”, and begins at 7 p.m.

There are some opportunities to help out in the Kiwanis trailer at the Chelsea Community Fair. If you’d like to volunteer, the link is below. It is a great way to interact with folks at the fair while working for a good cause.
