Chelsea School student arrested for threat toward Chelsea teacher

A 16-year-old Chelsea District School student from Waterloo Twp. was arrested early this morning by the Jackson County Sheriff’s office for threats of violence toward a teacher, according to police reports.

Jackson County Sheriff Steve Rand reported that on Friday Dec. 21 at 1:30 a.m., the Jackson Sheriff’s Office was asked to conduct an investigation into a threat of violence toward a teacher.

The threat was posted by the student on a social media site and made a very specific threat to a specific teacher in the district, according to the police report.

A deputy investigated the allegation at the request of Chelsea Police “for a threat of violence toward a teacher in the Chelsea School District,” according to the press release.

The Sheriff’s Office met with the student and his parents, and after contacting the Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney, arrested the suspect for “Terroristic Threats,” the press release states.

As soon as Chelsea Police became aware of the threat, the district and the teacher were immediately notified.

Neither the teacher nor any students were ever in any danger, according to the press release.

The student was taken to Allegiance Health systems for mental health clearance and was brought before the juvenile court this morning.
