May is ‘Membership Month’ at the Chelsea Senior Center (CSC), and area residents and business/community leaders are invited to attend special open houses in May to become familiar

with the center’s programs and facilities.

On Thursday, May 22, the center will host a breakfast open house, featuring a tour and refreshments, for business and community leaders from 8-9 a.m.

A second open house on Thursday, May 29, will welcome area residents, including prospective members and their families, for a tour and lunch from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

To register for either of the May Open Houses, or for more information, call 475-9242.

“Our doors are always open to visitors, prospective members and their families,” said Trinh Pifer, executive director, “but these two open houses will provide special opportunities for these groups to see the facilities, meet some of our members, talk with staff and network with other participants.”

The Chelsea Senior Center, located in the Washington Street Education Center at 512 E. Washington St., is a growing community resource, serving more than 1,000 adults, age 50 and older, each year.

Among its many program offerings are health and wellness programs, like yoga, tai chi, exercise and pickleball; lifelong learning, like painting, drawing, stained glass, woodworking, crafts, computers and book clubs; social activities, including bridge, euchre, Wii games and movies.

The CSC also offers group travel, volunteer opportunities, resources and service referrals for seniors through its C2S2 program, daily onsite lunches and through its Meals on Wheels program, home delivered meals Monday through Friday.

The CSC welcomes all area residents, including those in surrounding communities like Manchester, Stockbridge and Grass Lake. Annual membership dues are $25 per year.

The Chelsea Senior Center is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote, encourage, and organize activities that address the physical, social, and emotional concerns of Chelsea area senior citizens and their families. Office hours are Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.to 3 p.m.
