The Chelsea Soccer Club (CSC) recently made some bold and unprecedented hires with focus on delivering program excellence.
In an era of mega sports and ever more competitive and costly youth programming, the Chelsea Soccer Club is doubling down on its mission to offer affordable high quality soccer through an investment in personnel.
With an eye to growing a more competitive program, CSC recently held a statewide search for a new Director of Coaching and they found their perfect match.
Twice.
Hailing from Granada, Spain – where soccer is King- Mario Zuniga Gil joins the Chelsea Soccer Club as the new Director of Coaching. While locally grown and sourced Sean Myint of Dexter joins the Chelsea Soccer Club as the new Assistant Director of Coaching.
The dual hire achieves the goals of the Chelsea Soccer Club, “To develop the best in each and every youth both as a player and an individual while keeping the sport of soccer accessible to our community.”
As Director of Coaching, Zuniga will manage the U8-U18 club travel teams with an emphasis on developing the technique of the players and love of the game. It starts with the coaches and Zuniga will ensure that coaches are teaching and developing proper technique in the player.
Beyond solid methodology and technique, coaches also need to be strong role models for players and support their development both as players and individuals. The intent is to develop a healthy attitude towards participating in team sports through a positive and challenging experience that will benefit players long after they leave youth sports.
As the new Assistant Director of Coaching, Myint, longtime soccer fanatic, college player, and travel and recreation coach, will focus on developing the Academy Program.
The Academy Program, in partnership with the Chelsea Community Education Program, will build a strong foundation for the budding soccer player. Myint wants to give them the best experience possible so they feel good about themselves, their participation in the soccer program and their performance on the field.
The goal is to create such a positive experience for the kids that they want to come back next week, month, and year to play again. “For kids 3-10 years old, playing soccer will help them sleep better at night. It’s a game that develops special awareness and cognitive skills,” Myint says.
Both Zuniga and Myint are positive, dynamic directors and coaches who share a passion for the game of soccer. Soccer is the world’s most popular sport for a reason, and Zuniga and Myint want to share their love of the game, while developing the young people of this community.
Together, they want to build a foundation of soccer in the community that will foster a lifelong love for sport, strength of character, and pursuit of excellence.

Tryouts for the 2018-19 Travel Seasons (U8-U18) are June 16-17, register on the soccer club website. Second through fifth grades are ideal grades to join travel soccer.
Academy Soccer through Chelsea Community Education will be offering extended options in the fall.
