(Chelsea Update is running a series on businesses in Chelsea beginning with businesses that belong to the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce. This week it’s Silver Maples of Chelsea winner of the chamber’s 2016 large business leadership award.)

Silver Maples of Chelsea retirement neighborhood is located at 100 Silver Maples Dr. in Chelsea on 17 acres of land and is a Michigan nonprofit membership corporation founded in 1995.

When it began, Silver Maples had two members along with a board of directors. The two members were United Methodist Retirement Communities, Inc. and Chelsea Community Hospital. In May 2009, when Chelsea Community Hospital and St. Joseph Mercy Health System merged, the hospital’s 50 percent interest in Silver Maples was transferred to the Chelsea Area Wellness Foundation, now known as 5 Healthy Towns Foundation.

The retirement neighborhood includes 152 residential options for people 62-years of age and older including 17 independent living villas, 77 independent living apartments, and 58 assisted living apartments.

All residential accommodations are maintenance-free and include all utilities except for phone and cable television.

Julie Deppner, CEO of Silver Maples, and Christina Kim, director of marketing and sales, agree that Silver Maples loves being part of the city of Chelsea and the Chelsea Chamber of Commerce because partnerships are easily built.

Silver Maples is a proud sponsor and participant in many local groups and events including the Alzheimer’s Association, Relay for Life, Sounds and Sights on Thursday Nights, and St. Joseph Mercy-Chelsea.
