Buying the Chelsea Chiropractic Center in 2000 gave Dr. Jim Duncan and his wife Carolyn a reason to return to Michigan. They both grew up in Jackson and had been living and working in Illinois when the center’s original owner Jerald Flint decided to sell it.

“I chose chiropractic because of the philosophy of the body healing itself, as long as it isn’t interfered with,” said Duncan, who graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1993. “This philosophy was in line with how I was raised. Fortunately, I have always been pretty healthy. As a child, if I did get sick it was rest, chicken noodle soup, orange juice, and let the body handle the problem.”

The office staff at the Chelsea Chiropractic Center tries to make the practice easy to access for people, who range in age from newborns to seniors.

Duncan promises a friendly face at the center with the goal to help clients feel better.

“I want people to know that they are going to get my best effort to help them and an honest answer and recommendation if I don’t think I can help them,” said Duncan.

One of the most recent changes at the practice was adding low-level laser therapy, also called cold laser, to the practice earlier this year.

“It has been fascinating to learn about it and exciting to implement with our patients,” said Duncan.  “Along with chiropractic adjustments, the cold laser has enhanced our results and allowed us to improve many conditions that we had limited success with in the past.”

In May, the practice added a second laser with the goal to add more lasers to offer different options to help more people.

“Chelsea is a great place for chiropractic because I believe a large portion of the population is interested in alternative types of care as well as getting and staying healthy,” said Duncan. “We intend to stay in Chelsea because we love the small-town atmosphere, the relationships we have built, and the friends we have made.”
