Planning Commissioner and City Council candidate Jeff Blazok resigned from his planning seat Tuesday, and even if elected, won’t be able to serve on the Chelsea City Council.

Blazok accepted a new job in Nashville on Tuesday and he and his family are expected to move to Tennessee in early October.

However, because the deadline to withdraw from the election has passed, Blazok’s name will still appear on the Nov. 5 ballot as a 4-year candidate.

He is one of 10 residents running. Mayor Jason Lindauer is the only candidate who is running for re-election unopposed for his current seat. Six candidates are running for the three 4-year seats, Cheri Albertson, Melissa Johnson, Jim Myles, Marcia Parker and Dustin Suntheimer.

There are three candidates running for the two 2-year seats, Frank Hammer, Susan J. Moore and Jane Pacheco.

“It’s been a privilege to have served,” he said, of his few months on the Planning Commission, adding that both he and his family have enjoyed their two years in Chelsea.

“We do love living here,” he said.

Blazok said he wished the newcomers running for the City Council the best of luck.

“If I had one wish, it would be that Chelsea would be more affordable for more people,” he said.

Blazok has been outspoken about his concerns about the cost of utilities in the city and has lobbied for lower rates stating that surrounding towns have much lower ones than Chelsea.

As he gets ready to leave the city, he said he hopes more residents will get involved in what’s going on and will stand up to be heard when they feel strongly about an issue.
