Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce members were invited to an after-hours event Thursday night at Comtronics, a communications and security company, which has been doing business in the city for the last 12 years.
The company has two divisions, said Gregg Judge, director of sales for the company. There’s a communications division that sells products such as cell phones, data, tablets and jet packs for both home and business.
Then there’s a security division that includes both home and business security systems including burglar alarms and video surveillance.
“We’re on the cutting edge at home or on the road for protection and communications,” Judge said.
He said popular this year for the holidays will be all kinds of accessories for phones — from speakers to head sets that range in price from $25 to $150. The company even has winter hats with speakers in them and cold-weather gloves with special smart touch technology, so touch screen users don’t have to remove their gloves to use their phones.
Plus, Comtronics has walls full of other cell phone accessories in all sizes and colors.
Dan Budd, a security account executive, said the company provides systems for several local banks including Flagstar and Citizens, and the company has its own alarm center located in Jackson with 24/7 monitoring.
Comtronics provides residential security that’s accessible from a phone, tablet or computer, he said, which allows homeowners to remotely view video cameras placed in strategic locations in the home, turn on and off lights, and set temperatures.
From door switches to motion sensors, the technology available provides a number of levels of protection for homeowners that range in price from $300 to $1,200 for the equipment, and from $30 to $50 a month for monitoring.
“For businesses,” Judge said, “The sky’s the limit from the ‘Mission Impossible’ laser lights to basic equipment.”
Comtronics has one location in Chelsea, three in Jackson and one in Charlotte, Mich.
The Chelsea store, managed by Erik Fetters, is located near Blockbuster at 1155 S. Main St. and has a large Verizon sign on the outside with a smaller Comtronics logo underneath.
It’s open Monday-Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from noon-5 p.m.
