County Clean-up Day ‘a rousing success’

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Harley Rider for the photos in the slideshow.)

The County Clean-up Day event at the Western Washtenaw Recycling Authority (WWRA) facility on May 17 was a rousing success.

Here are some of the numbers from the event:

  • 1,140 vehicles in six hours
  • 909 tires collected
  • 1,500 gallons of used oil
  • 3,400 pounds of car and truck batteries
  • 120 yards of rigid plastics
  • Two 53’ trailers of E-Waste
  • Two 53′ trailers of household hazardous material

This was a huge amount of material that won’t end up in landfills. Also, $4,800 in donations were collected at the gate.

This event was sponsored by the WWRA, the City of Chelsea, Dexter Township, Lyndon Township, and Washtenaw County. All the sponsors wish to thank all who showed up to dispose of recyclables, which can now be reused.

The sponsors also thank everyone who volunteered to help make this event a success.

According to Phil Bolyard, manager of the WWRA facility, “All in all, I think it was one of the most successful events the county ever had.”
