Discussions continue about new Lima Township Hall

Lima Township Hall

By Lisa Carolin

There was some disagreement among Lima Township Board members at the Oct. 14 meeting regarding bid proposals for architects and engineers for the new township hall.

Former trustee Greg McKenzie was asked to work on the request for proposal and investigate possible architects and engineers for the project, and he suggested Midwestern Consulting, the township engineer. Trustee Duane Luick asked McKenzie to get additional engineering bids with the goal of saving money, but McKenzie argued that paying for Midwestern Consulting is money well spent.

Another suggestion was that once an architect is chosen, to let the architect choose an engineer to work with. McKenzie said he would try to work on the request for proposal by November or December.

Lima Township Supervisor Craig Maier said he would like to think about breaking ground on a new township hall late next spring. He said that once more information on the township hall’s structure is put on paper, he plans to hold a public input meeting.

The township board unanimously approved the revised Chelsea Area Fire Authority’s Articles of Incorporation, which Maier described as simplifying and cleaning up a number of things.

In other action, the board approved a resolution to honor all the years of service of Judge Richard E. Conlin.

In addition, the board approved a resolution on F.O.I.A. (Freedom of Information Act) procedures and guidelines and forms policy.

  1. Who the hell is Greg Mckenzie and why is he in charge of looking at contractors for new hall. Why haven’t we had a vote on the hall? Where did all this money come from? We were, evidently, overtaxed for years to save this money for the vanity project. Lima township has a good deal on their rental offices and we can vote at the church next door to county offices for nominal funds. Digitize the files and train clerks to use computor or hire a high school kid to answer question and print out files.
