Unofficial results: Voters approve Chelsea District Library millage by 542 votes

Voters in the Chelsea District Library district approved a new 6-year, 0.32 millage by 542 votes according to unofficial results from Washtenaw County.

With all 7 precincts reporting, voters approved the millage 1,861 to 1,319.

In Chelsea precinct 1, the total was 476 yes votes to 188 no votes, while in precinct 2, the total was 260 in favor of the millage and 125 against it.

In Lyndon Township, the unofficial count was 280 in favor of the millage and 235 against it.

In a very close Sylvan Township vote, residents defeated the new tax, 311-308 as did Lima Township. Lima voters defeated the measure, 221-209.

In Dexter Township precinct 3, the millage was also defeated 45-15, but in precinct 2, voters overwhelmingly approved the tax by a vote of 313-194.

The library district encompasses Chelsea, the townships of Lima, Lyndon and Sylvan and two precincts in Dexter Township and the new tax will run through 2019, raising $255,000 in the first year. About 2.1 percent of that total will be captured by the City of Chelsea Downtown Development Authority.
