Eddy Discovery Center Announces Junior Ranger Badge Program

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Katie McGlashen for the information in this story.)

Children who attend three programs at the Eddy Discovery Center throughout the summer can earn a Waterloo Junior Ranger Badge to iron on a favorite hat or backpack.

Kids obtain a punch card at their first nature program and then have the presenter punch a hole for every program that they attend during the summer.

Katie McGlashen, park interpreter, at the Eddy Discovery Center says “the badge program is meant to encourage participation in park activities and outdoor learning experiences while kids are out of school.”  Cards with three punches can be turned in for a Waterloo Ranger Badge and a Department of Natural Resources “My Outdoor Pledge” card. The new Junior Rangers will take the pledge with park staff to spend at least one hour every day outside enjoying, exploring, and learning nature’s lessons.

Badge Funding
The Waterloo Natural History Association generously provided the funding for the badges, and supports the Discovery Center throughout the year with program funding, gift shop revenue, and special events.

Future Conservationists
The Department of Natural Resources is looking to foster a relationship with Michigan’s natural resources in future generations. Many local children have already benefited from the programs and activities at the Eddy Discovery Center such as; After School Archery, Creekin’ for Crayfish, and the Hook, Line and Sinker programs.

  1. My daughter received a “Waterloo Junior Ranger” badge and our puppy chewed it up. How can I get her a replacement? I am happy to make a donation in exchange for it.
