Gov. Rick Snyder has joined in President Barack Obama in a call to lower all U.S. flags to half-staff on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26.

Flags should be returned to full-staff at sunset.

“On Memorial Day, we honor not just all Michiganders but all Americans, who have given the greatest sacrifice for our state and country,” Snyder said in a press release.

“This weekend while celebrating with our friends and family let’s all pause to reflect on the courage and selflessness displayed by our soldiers past and present,” he said.

This flag order is in accordance with Executive Order 2013-10.

Michigan residents, businesses, schools, local governments and other organizations also are encouraged to display the flag at half-staff.

When flown at half-staff or half-mast, the U.S. flag should be first hoisted to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff or half-mast position.

The flag should again be raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day.
