The halls of Beach Middle School received a splash of color and inspiration Wednesday, April 15, in the form of two large murals created by Girl Scout Troop 42801.

The murals are the Silver Award project for Girl Scouts Taylor Stephenson, Brittaney Stephenson, Bella Verardi, Kelly McCracken and Alexis Goulding. Their leader is Anita  Mosier.

“The girls put in 50 hours of time working on these,” said Mosier. “It was a collaborative effort, and this is their departure gift to their school.”

All five Girl Scouts are eighth-graders who will be graduating from Beach at the end of the school year.

“I loved doing the murals,” said Stephenson.

“We made a lot of good memories just making them,” said Goulding.

McCracken said that they enjoyed spending the time together.

“I hope the students see these and get a positive attitude they spread through the school,” said Stephenson. “When fifth-graders first come to Beach and are nervous, this is like a welcome gift.”

Both murals have uplifting messages written on them including, “Paint the sky, make it yours!!” and “Don’t forget to be awesome!!”

“We hope the murals put people in a better mood,” said Verardi.

Beach Principal Nick Angel was thrilled to receive the murals.

“I appreciate the partnership between Beach Middle School and the Girl Scout community,” he said. “This student artwork is a beautification project with an uplifting message now featured in the halls.”

The five scouts left their handprints on one of the murals in lieu of signatures.
