Historical society fundraiser: local base ball and brew

CAHS_Logo(Chelsea Update would like to thank Janet Ogle-Mater, president of the Chelsea Area Historical Society, for the information in this story.)

In American culture, there are some things that just simply go together perfectly, peanut butter and jelly, cake and ice cream, and baseball and beer.

With a vintage base ball team of our own and a newly opened brewery in town, it’s a natural the two would come together.

The Chelsea Alehouse Brewery is teaming up with the Chelsea Area Historical Society (CAHS) for a special fundraising event on Saturday, Sept. 28, starting at 1 p.m. It includes an afternoon of baseball, crafted brews, and local history for area residents and visitors.

The event will begin with a fun-filled exhibition game between the CAHS Monitor Base Ball Club of Chelsea and a squadron of Alehouse boys at Timbertown Park at 1 p.m. After the match, the good times will continue at the Chelsea Alehouse Brewery with locally crafted brews and eats.

Chelsea Alehouse BreweryAlso, local historian Cary Church will recollect Chelsea’s saloon history with a discussion of the integral role the saloons played throughout the city’s development, covering the earliest watering holes to present-day favorites. The talk will commence around 3 p.m. at the brewery.

A percentage of the sales from the day at the brewery will be donated to the historical society by owner Chris Martinson. The funds will assist the CAHS in its mission to gather and preserve area artifacts, as well as educate people about the rich history of the Chelsea district.

Everyone is invited for one or all the activities.
