Molly Mannor, 8, is hoping to sell enough Girl Scout cookies to win an i-Pod while Michelle Arntz, 8, would like to sell enough to get an e-reader.
But to get these prizes, these two Chelsea Area Girl Scouts will have to sell a lot of boxes of cookies at $3.50 a box.
You can help all of the Girl Scouts win prizes as each weekend at various locations throughout Chelsea they man cookie booths.
Last Saturday, these two girls were at Chelsea State Bank, with Arntz’ little brother, Nathan, 6, at one of the many local businesses who let the scouts set up tables with boxes of all your favorites.
Mannor, of Manchester, is a student at Klager Elementary, while Arntz, of Chelsea, attends South Elementary.
From Thin Mints (my personal favorite) to Trefoils, Tagalongs and Savannah Smiles, Samoas, and Do-Si-Dos — the scouts will be out every weekend through mid-March.
Nearby, at TCF Bank last Saturday Victoria Clay, 9, and Laura Mosier, 9, both South Meadows students, were selling at another cookie booth.
Their troop 41097 is trying to sell enough cookies to take a trip to Mackinac Island, which means selling 1,000 boxes.
And, the scout who sells the most in the troop will also get a prize.
For Clay, it was her first time manning a booth, and she said she was having fun and that people were very nice.
Mosier, a cookie-selling veteran, is in her fifth year. Her secret to high sales? “You joke around with people and say things like, “We know you want some, so please, buy a box.”
The cookie booths began Feb. 15 and continue through March 17.
And here are just a few of the businesses where you can find your favorite cookies: Chelsea Pharmacy, Chelsea Post Office, Chelsea State Bank, Polly’s Country Market, TCF Bank and The Treehouse.
Plus, the scouts are looking for additional locations as well, if there are any businesses that would like to host a cookie booth.
Girl Scout troops are self-funded and rely on sales from cookies to fund community service projects and troop activities throughout the year.
The money they earn goes back into the local community.
Plus, the girls learn finances and budgeting, public speaking and leadership skills while running a cookie booth.
Contact Anita Mosier, Chelsea Girl Scouts area manager, at 734-717-3580, if you are looking for cookies and can’t find a cookie booth. (Plus, she has two additional varieties – Thank U Berry Much and Dulce deLeche.)
