Recent 2015 Chelsea High School graduates and CHS dive team members  Jacob Burris and Joe Smith received good news this week as the All-America diving rankings came out through the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association.

Both divers made the NISCA list and can now call themselves All-American Divers, which puts them among the top 100 divers in the nation.

“Just being an All-American consideration diver puts a special mark on already great high school diving career but to have two out of three from the team this year make the list is outstanding,” said diving coach Eric Burris.

Sophomore diver Jordan Smith was also entered for All-America diving.

Last year, as juniors both Jacob Burris and Joe Smith were entered but did not crack the top 100. This list is a special accomplishment as it marks the final recognition for their high school careers, and both will be moving on to college in the fall to dive, Burris at Albion College and Smith at Oakland University.

First, a diver must attain a qualifying score, and needs to send in that best 11-dive meet on DVD and then other coaches from across the country get together in early June to re-judge all diving entries. Having one problem with the DVD, problem with the movie itself or a problem with the paperwork that accompanies the entry can have the diver thrown out of the re-judging.

“To have Jake and Joe validated with the All-America status is a testament to the hard work both divers have put in over that last four years.” said Burris.
