July 21: Deadline to submit petitions to run for Chelsea City Council in November

Chelsea logoThe City of Chelsea will have a non-partisan election for three 4-year City Council seats on Nov. 3.

The deadline for candidates to file petitions to be included on the November ballot is July 21 at 4 p.m. in the city clerk’s office.

There are petitions at the City Offices along with the required affidavit of identity and receipt of filing forms. Candidates need a minimum of 15 valid signatures on their petition.

The three seats up for election are currently held by Rod Anderson, Frank Hammer and Jane Pacheco.

Pacheco said she plans to run for re-election while Hammer said he does not plan to run for re-election.

Here’s what Anderson had to say via email, “I have no plans on running for another term on the City Council, though I will reserve a final decision to early July.”

He said he’s “hopeful that a large slate of prospective candidates will qualify so that the city can have real choices for the council seats going forward.”

He also urged “any qualified citizens to consider standing for election if they are concerned about the direction this community is going.”

He said if there is a lack of viable candidates coming forward, and if his personal time commitments change, he would reconsider getting into the race although he has no plans to continue as the city’s Chelsea Area Fire Authority Board representative.

For questions, contact City Clerk Laura Kaiser at 475-1771. Below are links to the required paperwork.

Residents who want to vote in the November election must be registered by Oct. 5.

  1. Thank you for your time and service these past 8 years. I enjoyed working with you and the others on the Chelsea Citizens for Accountability campaign in 2007. It has been a long but very productive 8 years and many of your goals have been met. I certainly understand your stepping down and I wish you all the best.
    Thanks again!
