This week, Chelsea Area Festivals and Events kicks off the Sounds and Sights Festival with its weekly concert series, Sounds and Sights on Thursday Nights, presented by Golling Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Chelsea.

Professional artists perform from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 10 staged areas located throughout downtown Chelsea featuring free music, interactive art and family entertainment.

The diverse music lineup of Sounds and Sights on Thursday Night includes Jon Ponder Band on the library lawn, Spencer Michaud at East Ally, and Salmagundi on East Middle Street.

The Glazier building showcases the ABC Sisters while Jed Fritzemeier and Brian Brill perform at the Sylvan Courtyard. Doctor Pizza will be at the Clocktower Gazebo and Lisa Pappas and Michael Weiss perform on the patio at the Chelsea Alehouse Brewery.

In addition to the free stages located throughout downtown, the Sounds and Sights Festival showcases a main stage inside the social tent located behind The Common Grill restaurant.

The social tent opens at 6 p.m., with live bands performing from 7 to 11 p.m.  Beer and wine will be for sale to those aged 21 and over. Admission to the social tent is $5 and all ages are welcome.

In addition to many local sponsors including The City of Chelsea DDA, Chelsea State Bank, “Jiffy” Mixes and Rick Taylor Real Estate, proceeds from the social tent help fund the summer long “Sounds and Sights on Thursday Nights” concert series.

Thursday, July 28 is billed as ‘Chelsea Spotlight’ and features three bands with Chelsea connections. Opening at 7p.m. is Cold Tone Harvest. Veterans to the Sounds and Sights on Thursday Nights concert series, Cold Tone Harvest mixes elements of indie folk and Americana.

At 7:40 pm The Moxie Strings take the stage performing an electrifying combination of feel-good melodies and rock-influenced rhythms.

Ben Daniels Band headlines Thursday night performing Americana, blues, jazz and rock.  Their latest album, Travelusive, was released in June 2016 and can be found online at http://www.bendanielsband.com/travelusive/.

In its 40th season, the Sounds and Sights Festival weekend will draw over 15,000 visitors and will feature an open-air art market, classic car show, chalk art contest, sidewalk sales, local food, and multiple events activities for all ages.
