For many folks in the area, true summer begins after they’ve purchased a chicken dinner on July 4 from the Chelsea American Legion Post 31.
For the 47th year, the Legion will host this annual chicken broil beginning at 11 a.m. and continuing until the 500 chicken dinners are sold out.
Included in a take-out or eat-in dinner are a half chicken, baked beans, Cole slaw, a bag of chips and a roll and butter for $10.
Beverages and desserts while they last are an additional cost.
Pending a monsoon, the dinners are expected to be ready for purchase at 11 a.m.
The proceeds from this fundraiser are used to assist area veterans.
The event is organized by Squadron 31 of the Sons of the American Legion and is held at the Legion Post, 1700 Ridge Road in Sylvan Township.
