The Chelsea Farmers Market takes place each Saturday from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Palmer parking lot.

Chelsea Update is profiling vendors at the market and this week’s focus is H and H Sugarbush.

Kirk and Michelle Hedding own H and H Sugarbush, LLC, and it’s based on their farm in Sylvan Township. The farm has been family run for more than 100 years, and since 2007, they’ve been making maple syrup on the farm.

“We tap just over 1,800 trees a year,” said Kirk Hedding. “We got into it due to curiosity.”

H and H Sugarbush, LLC has been a vendor at the Chelsea Farmers Market for six years.

“This is where my wife and I grew up and where our kids go to school, so we know a lot of folks,” said Hedding.

During four to six weeks in early spring is when they tap the maple trees to collect the sap and make the syrup in a sugar shack right by their house.

“People come to the farm or the market because we sell our products throughout the year,” said Hedding.

H and H Sugarbush, LLC sells maple syrup, maple sugar, maple candy, maple cream, maple coated almonds and pecans.
