Letter to the Editor: Is This the Direction City Residents Want Chelsea To Go?

Dear Editor:
As the new council weakens the foundation of city government, it feels like the circus is back in town.

One World One Family shared that shortly after the election the racial protests of 2020 and 2021 were a success and now the community could move forward.

If success is defined as a divided community and a council that governs with limited input then I wonder when will the clowns arrive?

OWOF has a death grip on the city government.  This community has lost or is losing three valued city employees and the city’s fate is currently in the hands of those who have an agenda of their own.

The community is told “write the council”, share your ideas but, there is more than one council member who fails to reply than actually respond. In fact, the newer two members reply while others do not.

Martin Luther King advised we judge people by the content of their character and OWOF counters with we should see color of skin and take that into account.  Foolishness.

This community is going to regret the financial expenses that come with this new philosophy of governing, which seems centered on you are either in or you’re out if you don’t follow the suggestions of OWOF.

One last question of this council: does anyone wanting to march need to apply for a permit to march or is the policy that if you want to you can, if you don’t you claim you are a collective to escape any legal responsibilities.

Given the actions taken since the November election it is clear certain members of council have a social political agenda all their own and those of us who question that are not replied to.

Chelsea city government is supposed to be a non-partisan entity but it no longer is. Is this the direction the community wishes to go?

Making choices that affect a whole community based on the goals of an  outside organization is a huge mistake.

Sincerely,
Michael D. McIntosh
