Letter to the Editor: Response to Chelsea Update’s 9th Anniversary Column

(Publisher’s note: William “Bill” Ruddock is a candidate running for Chelsea City Council in the Nov. 2 election.)

Dear Editor Chelsea Update:
I read with interest your update of 7/22/2021. First let me say thank you for all you have done with Chelseaupdate.com over your 9 years. It is work I appreciate. Thank you.

I was moved by your request for civility, and I was reminded of the prayer of St. Frances who asked the following:
* Make me an instrument of your peace!
o That where there is hatred, I may bring love.
o That where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of forgiveness.
o That where there is discord, I may bring harmony.
o That where there is error, I may bring truth.
o That where there is doubt, I may bring faith.
o That where there is despair, I may bring hope.
o That where there are shadows, I may bring light.
o That where there is sadness, I may bring joy.
* Grant that I may seek rather to comfort, than to be comforted.
o To understand, than to be understood.
o To love, than to be loved.
o For it is by self-forgetting that one finds.
o It is by forgiving that one is forgiven.

Here in Chelsea, most residents that I know will identify with this and the integrity behind it. It is what makes us a “cheeky” town as you call it.

We have some disagreements currently troubling our citizens. We are strong enough as a community to listen and receive the concerns of our citizens. We need both our school board and our city council to listen and dream and act. Listen to our citizens, dream about our future together and act to make it so.

Thanks again.
Grace and Peace,
Bill Ruddock
Chelsea
