Lyndon Township Planning Commission expected to hold public hearing July 29

The Lyndon Township Planning Commission held a Zoom meeting on June 24 and will begin meeting in person on July 29 at 7 p.m. in Lyndon Township Hall.

Zoning Administrator Scott Pacheco said he’d issued six permits in June, four in May and five in April.

The commission also elected new officers:

  • Kevin McLaughlin was re-elected as the chairman.
  • John Reilly was re-elected as the vice chairman.
  • Bob Mester was re-elected as the secretary.

Planning Commissioners were introduced to Zach Michaels, the township’s new planning consultant from Carlisle Wortman. Michaels presented his report detailing possible zoning text amendments that would spell out specific activities or improvements in the township that do not require zoning permits.

However, some of these activities may still require permits from other entities such as the Chelsea Area Construction Agency or the Washtenaw County Road Commission.

Among those activities or improvements not requiring a township permit are:

  • Interior improvements that do not change the structure’s envelope such as window, door, plumbing or electrical changes.
  • Exterior improvements that are at least 10 feet from lot lines including exterior mechanical equipment, sidewalks, concrete or paver patios, small structures under 6-feet high and under 100 square feet.
  • exterior improvements such as new roofs or siding, some types of fencing, play equipment, flagpoles, temporary or window signs, Satellite dishes under 3 feet or antenna for residential use.
  • In addition, a submission of an application for a Zoning Compliance Permit constitutes permission for the township to access the property for any necessary onsite investigations of compliance.

It’s expected that these draft changes will be the subject of a public hearing and further discussion at the July 29 Planning Commission meeting.
