March 18: bike race Waterloo G and G Gravel Road Race

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Marissa Solomon for the information in this story.)

The Waterloo G and G Gravel Road Race will lead cyclists through a 100K or 50K course through the Waterloo Recreation Area on Saturday, March, 18.

For those new to bike racing or built for speed, there is a 10 mile non-competitive loop. The course will take riders through rolling hills, paved roads, and dirt roads, and finish with a beer (and a commemorative Waterloo G and G pint glass) from Wolverine State Brewing Co.

Registration is still open at https://epicraces.com/event/g- and-g/.

Legendary cyclist Frankie Andreu will be the announcer at the road race. He has a storied career as a cyclist and an announcer at cycling events.

Andreu spanned a 12-year professional career that included nine Tours de France, three Tours of Spain, and one Giro d’Italia. He also competed in the 1988 and 1996 Olympic Games. Andreu has announced at international and national cycling events.

In addition to his career, Andreu was an integral part of the outing and investigation of Lance Armstrong’s performance enhancing drug use.

“Cycling continues to grow, and the adventure of the Waterloo G and G is something not be missed. I look forward to announcing the race and cheering everyone on,” said Andreu.  “I’m glad that organizations like Epic Races are working to expand racing opportunities by attracting cyclists from all over the Midwest for their great events.”
