March 9: Chelsea students host 8-hour benefit dance marathon

(Chelsea Update Adam Schilt for the information in this story.)

While most of Michigan is sleeping, nearly 150 Chelsea High School students will be wide awake, dancing the night away to raise money for pediatric rehabilitation programs at C.S. Mott’s and Beaumont Children’s Hospitals.

In partnership with Dance Marathon at the University of Michigan, CHS Student Council will host its first annual Mini-VictorThon – an 8-hour no sleeping, no sitting event – on Saturday, March 9, from midnight to 8 a.m. in the Chelsea High School gymnasium.

All proceeds will be donated directly to the University of Michigan’s 24-hour marathon, which funds hundreds of pediatric rehabilitation programs for families across southeast Michigan.

At the end of the event, dancers will perform a line dance created and choreographed by CHS students. They will learn a portion of this dance at the top of each hour.

“It’s a chance for our school family and community to come together and show how much Chelsea cares,” said Adam Schilt, an advisor to CHS Student Council. “Students have worked so hard to raise money and plan the event. They’ve turned empathy and passions into action.”

Members of the community are invited to join a number of local businesses and individuals who have supported CHS Mini-VictorThon. Anyone who wants to support the cause can donate via the link below.

The community is also invited to visit the event, particularly for the finale at around 7:30 a.m.
