On Monday, May 9, Rick Eder, Chelsea’s Farm Bureau Insurance agent, will speak to Chelsea Kiwanis.

He will talk about Chelsea BNI, a business networking group that members use to obtain job referrals. Each time a member meets someone needing a particular service or product, they recommend that person to the appropriate business in Chelsea BNI.

He will also give an update on discussions in Lansing on potential changes to the current Michigan no-fault insurance law.

Last week, two guest speakers from Chelsea District Library, Head of Youth and Teen Services Karen Persello, and Director Lori Coryell spoke to the club.

They thanked the club for supporting the Library’s Summer Reading/Summer Learning Program and supplied data to show that students can suffer a regression in skills while not in school during the summer.

The reading program helps to maintain the gains those young minds have achieved during the school year. Several offerings to attract children to participate in the program include a week long Minecraft Camp and a Stop Motion Animation Workshop.

In addition, this year is a new summer program to offer a snack and a story for children. Chelsea Kiwanis looks forward to continuing its support of Chelsea District Library.

The club meeting begins each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy-Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.  Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to learn about Kiwanis, click www.kiwanisclubofchelsea.org for more information.
