New Saline-Chelsea ski team competes in first race of the season

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Laura Dillmann, head coach of the Saline-Chelsea Ski Team for the information in this story.)

The Saline-Chelsea Ski Team got off to a solid start in their first race at Mt. Brighton on Tuesday night.

There were two challenging slalom courses set for the race, with each racer required to complete clean runs through both courses, with the combined times determining place.

On the boys side, Erik Koseck (grade10, Chelsea) laid down two impressive runs for a combined time of 43.56 and an overall first place finish.

Caden Faupel (grade 9, Chelsea) had combined runs of 57.15, taking 32nd overall, and Tanyr Krummenacher (grade 11, Saline) had combined runs of 66.24 with an overall 42nd place finish.

Unfortunately, the boys did not have the required four racers completing both runs, and therefore could not get a boys team score.

On the girls side, Ally Dillmann (grade 11, Saline) led the team with a combined time of 62.82 and an overall 26th place finish. Also scoring team points for the girls were Katie McGinnis (grade 11, Chelsea) with a time of 65.76 in 33rd, Jaiden Saylon (grade 10, Saline) with a time of 73.01 in 41st and Sydney Collins (grade 10, Chelsea) with a time of 82.24 in 48th.

The girls team placed 8th overall.

“For many of the skiers, this was their first race experience,” said Head Coach Laura Dillman. “They all exhibited great teamwork and show a lot of promise. The team will compete in a giant slalom race on Thursday at Mt Brighton.”
