Chelsea’s new Speedway gasoline station and convenience store is abuzz with customers. Managers say they are thrilled with the response.

Speedway, located at 930 South Main St., on the northwest corner of M-52 and Old U.S. 12, opened Thursday, Jan. 22, and has quickly become a popular destination for those seeking gasoline and/or groceries.

“We have a wonderful location,” said Reggie Ringman, a floating manager currently working there. “The community has been so supportive, and the customers are so polite.”

“It’s fantastic!” said store co-manager Jon Durtka. “We’re getting a lot of high school students.”

Student Kitlyn Anderson has visited the convenience store a couple times.

“It’s so convenient,” she said.

“It’s a great location for me,” said Sally Flack, who works at Chelsea Community Hospital.

Ringman says that despite taking over the location where Wolverine Food and Spirits was located until last fall, Speedway does not have a liquor license. The convenience store offers a selection of beverages in its “drink den” and “grab and go” sandwiches, which are made fresh daily.

According to Stefanie Griffith, communications manager for Marathon Petroleum Corporation, the parent company of Speedway, “The new 3,900 square foot location is open around the clock and has 10 consumer fueling positions. The store features an expanded selection of quality hot and cold beverages as well as prepared food products including pizza, breakfast sandwiches, hot lunch sandwiches, subs and cookies.”

The new Chelsea Speedway is currently hiring. Anyone interested can stop by for an application or click here.
