(Chelsea Update would like to thank Sue Rothamel for the information in this story.)

Imagine being surrounded by giant paper hydrangeas, thousands of hand-painted butterflies, and paper-flowered umbrellas at a uniquely creative experience at USArtQuest, 18650 W. Old US12 Hwy. in Sylvan Township.

Meet the artist Zahrah Resh, paper artist extraordinaire, on Thursday Nov. 2 from 3-7 p.m. Zahrah’s work launched her into this years’ top 25 contenders of 2017’s Art Prize in Grand Rapids, MI.

“While scaled back a bit from the enormity of the Grand Rapids event at the Lemmen-Holton Cancer Center, Zahrah’s installation at USArtQuest provides viewers the opportunity to experience this impressive event,” says Susan Pickering Rothamel, owner of USArtQuest in a press release, adding, “It is a privilege for us to have this show in Chelsea, and I hope everyone comes, especially children. I’m confident they will be entranced.”

Meet the artists who showcase their work at USAQ, too.

Rose Bradley is an award-winning watercolorist and instructor and Connie Pickering Stover who specializes in photography, especially the historical sites of Chelsea.

Doris Galvin, will be showing her wonderful boxes and trays, all beautifully finished, using handmade papers.

Also featured will be the work of Judy Tomer a contemporary textilist, Stephanie Kolman, whose whimsical carved, paper mache and painted gourds will garner an out loud-chuckle, and owner/artist Susan Pickering Rothamel’s Botanical Collages.

Come, enjoy the art, sip a cup of tea from the Iceni Tea, and maybe a butterfly land on your shoulder.
