Chelsea Area Players’ (CAP) Youth Theater will perform the comedy, “Haphazardly Ever After” in November, for pre-holiday season entertainment that the whole family will enjoy.

Written by Jeff Fluharty and presented by special arrangement with Pioneer Drama Service, Inc., the play is a fractured fairy tale about a well-meaning king and queen who have four intolerable adult children still living in the castle.

The description on pioneerdrama.com says, “There’s the mean Princess Cinnamon, the not-so-bright Princess Peppermint, the vain Prince Hairgel and Prince Slacker, who thinks being a prince is just way, way too hard.” The king and queen try to help their children with the help of a royal therapist, teachers, and future spouses, but nothing works. When they learn how costly it is to hire a fairy godmother, they resort to The Enchanted Depot for supplies to make a do-it-yourself fairy tale ending. Even though royal chaos ensues, it’s possible that they all might live happily ever after.

Director Alex Moore said that the CAP board decided to produce this show because it was funny, with jokes and gags that can be enjoyed by audience members of all ages.

The cast includes 35 young actors who are in third through eighth grade. “There are so many great characters in this show for the kids to develop,” said Moore. “With lots of dialogue and action, they really grow as performers.”

Carson Woollams, a seventh grader who most recently delighted audiences as Donkey in CAP Youth’s production of “Shrek the Musical, Jr.” portrays the King.

“I like the personalities in this show,” he said. “In real life, a lot of the actors are nothing like the roles they play, so it’s fun to see them being so different.”

A veteran actress with nine other shows under her belt, eighth grader Grace Sharrow-Ducsay performs as a narrator in this show.

“The best thing about this play is the humor,” she said. “It’s an amazing show.”

“Haphazardly Ever After” runs Nov. 6-7 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 8 at 3 p.m. in the George Prinzing Auditorium at the Washington Street Education Center, 500 Washington St.

General admission tickets are $10. They are available in advance at Chelsea Pharmacy, 1125 South Main St. or at the door.
