Nov. 7: Chelsea Kiwanis Club to hear from Allen Cole

kiwanisfruit(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)

The Kiwanis 41st Annual Fruit Sale is now underway. The club pre-sells navel oranges, red grapefruit, and tangelos for the next 4 weeks. They are picked, sorted by size, and driven straight from Florida the first week of December.

This fruit is fresher than can be found in the grocery store and lasts in a cool place for 2-3 months.

You can order from any Kiwanian or stop in Chelsea State Bank, Heydlauff’s, or Palmer Auto Service to place an order.

Please join in on this healthful citrus sale, which also benefits Chelsea groups who receive support from the Kiwanis Club.

It was very nice weather for the annual Chelsea Halloween Party last Monday evening, and folks enjoyed cider and doughnuts while observing the wonderfully creative costumes. Thanks to Allen and Wendy Cole for hosting the event and photographing the winners. (A slideshow from the event will publish tomorrow.)

Thanks, too, to the Chelsea High School Key Club members for the extremely hard job of judging and handing out ribbons.

Allen Cole will also be the club’s speaker on Monday evening. He has spoken to us before about the fascinating history of some of the local graveyards, and has been our guest as the leader of Boy Scouts of America Troop 413.

This time, he will be demonstrating a new phone app that he is making available to folks in Chelsea at no charge.  It is for emergencies and alerts 911 and loved ones with your location, and has first aid instructions among other features.

On Saturday, Nov. 12, we will be doing some leaf raking with our Kiwanis family members. Chelsea Kiwanians, Key Club members, and U of M Circle K members, (as part of their 24 Hour Day of Service), will clear the leaves from yards from a list of homes provided by the Chelsea Senior Center.

The club meeting begins each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.

Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to learn about Kiwanis.
