(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt and Jim Randolph for the information in this story.)

The Chelsea Kiwanis Club would like to thank Allen Cole and Cole Funeral Chapel for the use of this venue on Halloween for the Kids Halloween Party and thanks, also, to all the children and their families who participated.

Last Monday, the club heard from Dick Lawrence of Kids Wings. He is a man who saw an opportunity and stepped up to help those in financial or medical need get care at a facility best reached via his airplane.

This Monday, Nov. 9, the club will hear from Matt Pegouskie, the Community Investment Manager for the 5 Healthy Towns Foundation, formerly the Chelsea-Area Wellness Foundation. He will speak about the foundation’s history, mission, and activities. He will clarify distinctions between the foundation and the Chelsea Wellness Coalition and its sister organizations in Dexter, Manchester, Grass Lake, and Stockbridge. The foundation is one of the least appreciated gems of the Chelsea area community, and is an integral part of what makes living here so special.

Don’t forget, the club is holding its 40th Annual Fruit Sale. Members are taking orders this month for fresh citrus from Florida, to be delivered the second week of December. Navel oranges, red grapefruit, and tangelos are $30/case and $20/half case. See any Kiwanian, or visit Chelsea State Bank, Heydlauff’s, or Palmer Auto Service to place an order.

The deadline to order fruit is Monday, Nov. 23, and delivery is expected on Dec. 7 or 8.

The meeting begins at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy-Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.

Everyone is invited to the meetings to learn about Kiwanis and check here.
