(Chelsea Update would like to thank Kathy Tulman for the information in this story.)

Zion Lutheran Church is holding its annual Sauerkraut Supper on Saturday, Oct. 14, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. and 25 percent of the proceeds will go to help the people in need in San Juan.

Tickets are available by calling 734-320-5004 or emailing [email protected]. Adults $11, Children 5-10 years $5. Children under 5 are free.

A limited number of tickets will be available at the door.

Take outs will also be available. Please come and support this worthy cause.

The photos, video and articles regarding the devastation by hurricane Maria have a personal connection for Chelsea area families. Following six months of preparation, 16 members of Zion Lutheran Church traveled to San Juan to work alongside Grace Lutheran Church in the Santurce neighborhood.

This ELCA church’s kitchen and bathrooms were updated, gardens cleaned and replanted and exterior walls painted. In addition, a vibrant mural, designed by Chelsea Middle School teacher Kim Eder, was stenciled and painted on an overhang.

As of Oct. 1, we have yet to hear from most of our Puerto Rican brothers and sisters. Those who have contacted us have no electricity and little water or gasoline.

  1. Where is the supper to be held? We are fairly new to Chelsea so we don’t know where everything is yet. We both like sauerkraut And we would like to support aid efforts to Puerto Rico.
